2013 est d’ores-et-déjà une année majeure pour tout amateur de Death Metal mélodique qui se respecte. Ceremonial Oath, groupe pionnier du son Gothenburg se reforme pour les 20 ans de son premier album studio: The Book Of Truth. Le groupe naît en 1988 sous le nom Desecrator mais change rapidement pour son nom actuel après deux démos très influencées par le Thrash américain. Sous cette nouvelle bannière, une première démo, Promo 1991, voit le jour au début des années 90 rapidement suivie par un premier EP intitulé Lost Name of God. Après quelques rapides changement de line-up, le groupe se stabilise et compte parmi ses rangs quelques futures stars de la scène suédoise : Oscar Dronjak (HammerFall), Jesper Strömblad (In Flames, Dimension Zero, The Resistance), Anders Iwers (Tiamat) et Markus Nordberg. Enregistré en Septembre 1992 au Studio Fredman, c’est en 1993 que le premier album studio de la formation voit le jour sur le label Modern Primitive Records. L’album est brutal, direct mais à la manière d’At The Gates en son temps, les premières traces de mélodies influencées par le Thrash et le Heavy transparaissent. Edité une première fois en vinyle à sa sortie, l’édition que vous pouvez admirer ici est la réédition anniversaire de ce premier opus. Ce double vinyle comprend la totalité des titres de l’album original en version re-masterisé mais aussi le contenu des démos du groupe alors que celui-ci officiait encore sous le nom de Desecrator. Le tout est accompagné d’un superbe livret grand format riche en photographies et documents d’époque (flyers, affiches, notes, etc.). Dans son livre intitulé Swedish Death Metal, Daniel Ekeroth décrivait Ceremonial Oath de la manière la plus juste : «Rétrospectivement, on peut considérer le groupe comme le plus beau tremplin vers le succès qu’a enfanté la Suède».

The band was born in 1998 under the name of Desecrator but changed quickly for its actual name after two demos influenced by American Thrash Metal. Under this new name, a first demo entitled Promo 1991 was released in the early 90’s and was quickly followed by a first EP entitled Lost Name of God. After some quick line-up changes, the line-up stabilizes itself with some of the future greatest stars of the Swedish scene: Oscar Dronjak (HammerFall), Jesper Strömblad (In Flames, Dimension Zero, The Resistance), Anders Iwers (Tiamat) and Markus Nordberg. Recorded during September 1992 at Studio Fredman, the studio album was released in 1993 through Modern Primitive Records. The album is brutal and direct but, as At The Gates in its time, the first elements inspired by Thrash and Heavy appear. Published a first time on vinyl during its released, the edition that you can admire here is the anniversary re-release of this first opus. This double LP includes the entire original studio album re-mastered and the previous Desecrator demos. This edition includes a magnificent large booklet featuring lots of archive photos and original documents. In its book entitled Swedish Death Metal, Daniel Ekeroth described Ceremonial Oath with the most beautiful manners: « Afterward, we can consider the group as the most beautiful springboard towards the success which gave birth Sweden ».
